After a cold winter of hibernation, it’s time to put on sunscreen, grab your float and open up the pool! Before you dive in, however, it’s wise to take a few minutes to make sure you’re taking the right steps to keep your pool safe for everyone.

Pool safety should always be a priority. This quick infographic provides information that can help get you ready for many warm days relaxing outside to come:

Guidelines and more to help make your pool safety measures count

It’s important to check to make sure your pool and barriers meet state codes and industry guidelines designed with safety in mind. Below are some resources that can help:

  • For effective barriers: Barriers help prevent kids (yours or your neighbors’!), pets, and others from wandering into the pool area unsupervised. It’s important to make sure your barriers meet guidelines, which vary depending on the type of barrier, pool, surface, and more. Poolsafely.gov has developed a great guide for safety barrier guidelines for residential pools.
  • For pool codes: Codes for residential pools, hot tubs, and spas vary by state and municipality. Make sure to check the codes for your state, county, and country.

When the temperature climbs this summer, step outside and jump into a day at the pool—just make sure you follow pool safety rules while you do!
